Jazz connects straight to the soul. Come and feed yours at Orleans’ famous Jazz Sessions, showcasing young talent from Auckland’s School of Music.
Orleans has gifted Auckland with a trifecta of delights: great food, strong liquor, and live music. On Tuesday, November 28th, they’re taking it a step further and transporting you straight to the heart of New Orleans with the help of the jazz department at the University of Auckland’s School of Music. Three top acts –Gianan Trio, Half Crazy 2.0, and Ladiwai – will deliver smooth sounds all night long. From jazz to funk, soul to rhythm and blues, their music isn’t the kind you just listen to, it’s the kind you feel.
For young New Zealanders looking to hone their skills, the University of Auckland’s School of Music is the destination. Studying under the country’s finest instrument teachers, along with globally-known composers and musicologists, students specialize in one of three performance majors: classical, jazz and popular music. Recognised for their particular strength in jazz performance, students at the school of music are no strangers to the stage, bringing their music to the public through regular concerts. The Orleans Jazz Sessions were dreamed up in partnership with the School of Music’s Students’ Association – and based on past shows, this one’s going to be a wild success.
Tunes kick off at 7pm on Tuesday, November 28th, and Orleans is sweetening the deal by offering liquor and kitchen specials all night long. With soul-food classics on the menu like ribs dripping with house-made barbeque sauce, fried chicken and waffles spiced with chipotle, and jalepeño and cheese cornbread, you won’t go hungry. Signature cocktails like the Sazerac (New Orlean’s official drink!) and the Big Easy punch will have you singing/dancing along in no time, so come early to grab your table, and settle in – this is going to be a feast for your ears, but also your taste buds.
