What do you get when you cross a fashion designer who sites Voltaire as an inspiration, with a psychedelic pop musician who makes songs with names like Jimchicken and Sneaky Sneaky Dog Friend?
You guessed it – a monumental meeting of minds, resulting in a wacky campaign and the launch of a surprisingly stately selection of men’s eyewear.
Karen Walker has today lifted the lid on her new eyewear offering, entitled Monumental and designed specifically for men. Created in response to the “fluid concept of modern masculinity” and all that it holds, the first collection features New Zealand’s nutty professor of indie pop, Connan Mockasin, as its hero, and a line-up of shapes described as “modernist takes on the thirties and fifties that will go on to stand the test of time”. Materials used are all class: clear, black horn and tortoiseshell acetates, silver and gold metal, and polarised or classic lens colours of smoke, brown and green.
Karen has said “It was exciting this time to shift the focus entirely to men”, and we’re sure the feeling will be mutual: the lads will be happy to be in her sights with this much-needed new addition. Go have a Sneaky Sneaky look: the collection is in Karen Walker Britomart now.
