Delicious Food, Brilliant People: Foodie Nights at 1885 Britomart

Local bar 1885 Britomart is currently hosting a series of unique social events, bringing people together over a shared passion for history’s greatest social connector: food.

Food & People is an 11-week series of Thursday night events, hosted each week by different prominent Kiwis. Some of New Zealand’s most recognised design, fashion, food, music, media and business figures will share their hand-picked menus with members of the public.

Hosts so far have included Karen Walker and Mikhail Gherman, Charlotte Ryan and Juliette Hogan, Simon Farrell-Green and Simon Pound, Rose Matafeo and Dominic Corry. Subsequent evenings will be hosted by Steve Dunstan from Huffer, Troy Mentor and Mark Huggard from Dizengoff, DJ Nick Dwyer and many more.

The changing lineup of hosts make Britomart’s 1885 their private dining room for the evening. Working closely with chefs from District Dining, Mexico and Agent & Merchants, they create casual grill-style menus, complemented by unique drink choices, served to guests after an informal presentation, backed up by a personalised soundtrack.

Series sponsor Kim Crawford is also serving wine cocktails and wine-infused ice-pops, destined to be a hit this summer.

The series is the brainchild of U Live presenters Tim Lambourne and Connor Nestor and brings together their love of food, music and good company.

“We wanted to take over 1885 and do something completely different with it; make it casual, where people can feel comfortable, enjoy some really delicious food, catch up with their friends and make some new ones,” says Connor.

Entry to Food & People is free of charge and on a first-in, first-served basis.
