Douglas + Bec for Kate Sylvester Furniture Arrives at Britomart

Fashion designer Kate Sylvester has joined forces with furniture design team Douglas + Bec to create a stunning new range of occasional furniture, lighting and homewares.

Available at Kate Sylvester’s Britomart boutique from Friday 5 October, the 10-piece collection is an inspired combination of Sylvester’s signature elegant aesthetic and Douglas + Bec’s contemporary, understated design sensibility.

The collection combines the fashion designer’s iconic colour palette of duck egg blue, soft neutrals and hints of red and gold, with Douglas + Bec’s signature solid timber, polished brass and buttery leather.

Stand-out pieces include a turned white oak table lamp with a pale blue linen shade, a brass folding stool and a weave chair in ballet-blush leather. Also dreamy are the brass-legged coffee and side tables, an oak mirror teamed with blush leather, and the sublime angle floor and table lamps – ever-popular Douglas + Bec designs that have been given a ‘Kate’ twist.

The timeless collection has been designed by Rebecca Snelling – the ‘Bec’ in Douglas + Bec – and handcrafted by her father, artisan furniture maker Douglas Snelling. The duo have been crafting lighting and furniture in New Zealand for over five years through their company Workroom. In 2010 Rebecca and partner Paul set up retail store Douglas + Bec to showcase Workroom’s creations, along with a selection of offerings from other designers.

The Douglas + Bec for Kate Sylvester collaboration perfectly binds together the two design brands through the use of colour, texture and finishes. Each piece uniquely captures both the spirit of Kate Sylvester’s sophisticated and irreverent charm, and the material sensibilities and craftsmanship of Douglas + Bec. From a shared philosophy of design and sustainability, a beautiful and inspired collection has evolved.
