Generator Northern Steamship to Open on Quay Street
Generator Northern Steamship, due to open in mid-October, will be based on a similar concept to the existing Generator: a premium serviced office centre with high-quality socialising facilities.
The new location, however, will be tailored to the specific needs of a more senior membership of executives and established business owners.
“The existing Generator is aimed at a entrepreneurial membership of self-employed, typically younger people,” says Generator founder and CEO Ryan Wilson. “Many of them have recently gone out on their own and are getting their businesses off the ground. It’s built around open-plan workspaces and all that gives the place a certain type of energy.
“Generator Northern Steamship is designed to be more intimate and more exclusive. It’s a different model, made up of small private office suites with a shared lounge area. We expect it to appeal to a more senior and established membership and we’ve designed it to reflect that extra level of sophistication.”
Located on the first floor of the iconic Northern Steamship Company Building, the club will feature a luxurious fitout that highlights the building’s distinguished maritime history. Sweeping panoramic views of the working wharves from the lounge and bar area maintain a contemporary connection with Britomart’s maritime legacy.
Generator Northern Steamship will offer all the functional aspects of a serviced business centre, including high-speed internet, PA and technical support, print and copy facilities and a board room fully equipped with state-of-the-art IT and AV technology.
Memberships include resident, corporate and casual options, with private office suites for ‘resident’ members accommodating up to five people. The emphasis is on flexibility, support and a sense of community built around like-minded people.
“It’s a private sanctuary that gives our members their own space to work, have a quiet drink, or network and socialise when they’re in the mood,” says Ryan.
“We take care of all the little day-to-day tasks and provide everything they need to do business comfortably. We’re providing a level of personal service that wouldn’t be out of place in a boutique hotel.”
