Mika's Aroha Mardi Gras

What's On
Mika's Aroha Mardi Gras
When New Zealand’s most flamboyant entertainer takes to the stage, you know you’re in for a memorable performance. And when he’s joined by several dozen of his favourite performers and collaborators, it’s guaranteed to be something spectacular.
Mika’s Aroha Mardi Gras is a diverse, original, outrageous variety show hosted by celebrated Māori singer, dancer, cabaret performer and drag artist Mika.
This free family-friendly event is designed to show off Auckland in all its vibrancy and diversity to the world, during its time in the Rugby World Cup spotlight.
It’s designed as a distinctly 21st century experience, bringing together many of the cultures that call Aotearoa home – Japanese taiko drummers, Bollywood and Polynesian dance groups, belly dancers and Cook Islands fa’afafine performers as well as traditional and techno-inspired Māori kapa haka crews.
The carnival will also feature popular soul and reggae singers, a Kiri Nathan fashion show, funky Kā 400 flash mobs, the mighty Te Tai Tonga kapa haka group, drag artists Miss Chanel D’Vinci and The Manu Dolls, former All Blacks and Olympians, local first XV rugby teams and more of New Zealand’s favourite celebrities.
The show will be filmed for a Māori Television special, to be broadcast in October. Performances will take place in Takutai Square at 6pm and 8pm and are suitable for all ages.
The exhibition is part of the REAL New Zealand Festival, a nationwide celebration of heritage, culture and entertainment staged alongside the Rugby World Cup tournament.
