The Ellerslie RaceDays season kicks off this week with a bit of horsing around at Britomart as a special launch event takes place at Britomart’s Tyler Street Garage on Wednesday 31 October. It’s not unlikely there may be a few horses grazing in Takutai Square that day too.

RaceDays include some of the most exciting and exhilarating events on the Auckland social calendar, so it’s time to dust off those frocks, fish out the fascinators and have a jolly good time starting with the upcoming Melbourne Cup.

The horse-racing event of the year, Australia’s Melbourne Cup, takes place on Tuesday 6 November at 5pm New Zealand time and is a great excuse to frock up (or suit up) in your very best racing fashion and enjoy the celebrations.

There’s plenty of action happening right here at Britomart for Melbourne Cup – we’ve got the information from our locals as to what’s happening where.

The Britomart Country Club will hold a Melbourne Cup High Stakes Day from 1pm, with races shown live on the big screens. Entry is free and $50 lunch packages that include a steak lunch, glass of champagne and a $10 sweepstake bet are available. Bookings are essential and can be made by email at info@britomartcountryclub.co.nz. Other entertainment throughout the day includes DJs, sweepstakes, and prizes for the best dressed.

The champagne will also be flowing at Northern Steamship Co. with a complimentary glass of bubbles for those who are dressed race ready – suits and boots attire for men and frocks and fascinators for the ladies. The Emirates Melbourne Cup race will be screened at 5pm sharp.

Tyler Street Garage will also be screening the races throughout the afternoon on two projector screens downstairs as well as two projector screens on the rooftop deck. Melbourne Cup platters will be on the menu for $30, along with NV Daniel Le Brun Rose bottles for $50 or $10 a glass.
