Summer is on its way, and just in time for us to start shedding layers of clothing, Britomart is to get its very own branch of award-winning wax and brow bar OFF.

OFF Wax & Brow Bar, which has won Metro’s ‘Best Wax’ award for the last three years running, is due to open a third location on Galway Street in October.

Styling itself a ‘bar’ rather than a salon, OFF rejects many aspects of beauty salon culture. It promises “no white coats, no whale music, no serenity water fountains, Enya music or incense sticks” and avoids forcing salon-like rituals on its clients.

While working in the beauty industry overseas, OFF founder Nicky Shore has watched the beauty bar phenomenon gain serious momentum internationally.

“People want expertise, accessibility and experience rather than the traditional generalist approach, particularly for essential maintenance treatments like haircuts, colour and waxing. By changing the rules about how waxing is currently delivered, we aim for people to actually look forward to having a wax.”

Nicky says that the Britomart location was a natural step for her company.

“Our Takapuna and Newmarket branches are consistently booked out, and despite expanding to double our capacity, we’re still faced with waiting lists. So the challenge was to find a premium location that fits with our customers’ needs and lifestyle. Britomart is the perfect spot for our city-based clients to nip into during the working day.”

OFF features dedicated waxing rooms designed to maximise the waxing result, and a barber-style ‘brow bar’, armed with an artillery of brow-shaping techniques and products. The Britomart OFF team will be made up of specialists in three departments: brows, female waxing and male waxing. 

“Our brow artists, waxologists and manscapers are truly the most passionate about their fields, having chosen to specialise in those areas,” says Nicky.

“Britomart will see OFF specialise even further in male waxing with our new ‘OFF Workshop’, offering customised waxing products and procedures for men. We want men to know that OFF is a place that values them, understands their specific needs and really delivers the right level of expertise.”
