Sunday 22 April is the annual landing of the Westpac Rescue Chopper on the lawn at Takutai Square. This year’s event is slightly different, with more activities and displays; it has become a ‘Westpac Rescue Chopper Carnival Day’ running from 10am to 1pm in Takutai Square at Britomart. 

A free event to attend, the carnival day will be full of fun, family orientated activities and displays. There will be a sausage sizzle, a flight simulator, baby helicopter rides, face painting, a rock-climbing wall, and a bouncy castle that will be operating on a donation basis with all funds going to the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to meet the crew and see inside a rescue helicopter. 

Parking is available nearby at Britomart Car Park, with entrances on Quay Street and Britomart Place.

Britomart shops,cafes and restaurants will be open as normal, so you can grab a coffee or bite to eat, take a look around and soak up the atmosphere of the Westpac Rescue Chopper Carnival Day. 

Annual appeal

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was established in 1970 and provides a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year service.  It is a vital service that is on call for all New Zealanders. 

Rescue helicopters are used when an accident occurs in a remote location or if a patient is seriously ill or injured and medics believe getting to a hospital quickly will make a difference. A rescue helicopter is a fully equipped intensive care unit in the sky. 

Westpac’s goal is to raise one million dollars per year to support the rescue helicopters around New Zealand. With more than five thousand missions each year, donations are always welcome. If you can’t come along on Sunday and would like to make a donation, you can donate at any Westpac branch, Westpac online banking or on the chopper appeal website.
