Winter Season at the City Farmers' Market
As the chill hits and wrapping up every time you step out becomes a necessity, you can take heart in the knowledge that winter does have an upside at the City Farmers’ Market at Britomart.
At this time of year the market is full of fresh winter vegetables packed with the vitamins and minerals you need to stave off those nasty winter colds and flu.
The winter season sees vegetables such as beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and pumpkin become readily available and all are for sale at the City Farmers’ Market at Britomart, alongside other local snacks and tasty delights. Winter vegetables are perfect for roasting or for hearty, warming soups. For a great range of fresh veggies, Clevedon Herbs & Produce offer beetroot, pak choy, fennel, baby leeks and spinach along with their fancy lettuces and herbs.
If you’ve done an early morning workout or just need a bit of an immune boost to recharge your body, head over to Urban Fuel for an antioxidant-packed fruit juice or wheat grass shot. These aim to keep your energy levels high and the bugs at bay.
If that isn’t enough to get you out of bed on a Saturday morning, there have been a couple of new additions to the market recently that are worth checking out. Turkish Cuisine, Citrus Fruits and Long Flat Bacon Company have all joined the market as regular stallholders. Between them, they offer a tasty selection of goods ranging from dips and olives, persimmons and pears to specialty pork products.
Winter treats at the market

For those more inclined towards the savoury, there’s nothing like a toasty cup of organic Kokako coffee, or one of Kiwi Tucker’s famous mussel fritters hot off the grill, to warm you up as you soak up the market atmosphere while exploring the stalls or sit on the lawn to relax and enjoy the live music.
