World Triathlon Series Grand Final Takes Over Downtown this Weekend
Downtown Auckland is currently hosting an international festival of triathlon, culminating in the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final this Labour Weekend (20-22 October).
The Elite World Champs, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, is the most significant and high-profile event on the global triathlon calendar, with the world’s best Olympic distance triathletes battling it out for the World Championship crown. The event includes the men’s and women’s senior elite event, the under-23s and junior elite divisions.
Also taking place this weekend will be the 3:5:3 Solo and Teams Tri fun event, and the Age Group Sprint, Age Group Olympic and Para Tri World Champs finals on Monday (Labour Day).
All events will have their transition area on Queens or Cooks Wharfs, with plenty of running and cycle action along the Quay Street side of Britomart all day. Britomart’s cafes, bars and shops will be open as usual and Britomart Car Park can still be accessed via the Britomart Place entrance.
There will be additional public transport options available and there will be giant screens at key vantage points broadcasting the race as it happens. Bring the kids in and watch some of the world’s top athletes action!
