'Yoga Aid' Event For Barnados At Britomart
Auckland yoga practitioners will be joining thousands of others this weekend in the first-ever international ‘yoga relay’.
Beginning in Sydney and finishing in Los Angeles, ‘yogis’ around the world will participate in a series of coordinated local yoga classes that follow the sun west across the globe. Dubbed the ‘Yoga Aid World Challenge’, the 24-hour event aims to raise more than US$1million for charities worldwide.
Britomart is a participating venue of the 2012 Yoga Aid World Challenge, with all funds raised from the event going to Barnardos New Zealand. lululemon athletica will host a two-hour complimentary yoga class from 8.30am to 10.30am on Sunday 9 September.
“We are so excited to be bringing the Yoga Aid Challenge to Auckland for the first time in its history,” says Ally Jack, organiser of the Britomart event.
“The Britomart event will feature three of our amazing community yogis, Wendy Vermeulen, Angela Gervan and Muni Cari, for a fun and energizing two-hour yoga class. There is something for everyone, whether you have participated in yoga before or not. It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for Barnardos, who work tirelessly to help children across the country.”
The Britomart event is just one of more than 200 events worldwide coordinated by Yoga Aid, an international non-profit organisation that supports humanitarian charities and encourages yoga practitioners to give back to their communities.
Everyone is invited to take part in the Britomart event, with participants welcome to come for as much or as little of the two hours as they wish. Mats, water and snacks are provided.
