Britomart highlights this week Thursday 1 November – Thursday 8 November

The Good Citizen speaks, free gym classes and dark chocolate mmmmm…

With its soul food, live music, comprehensive chilli sauce offering, fully stocked liquor cabinet and golden-glowing, cave-like interior that transports you somewhere deep in the good ol’ South, Orleans is one of our favourite lunchtime or late-night stops. Waitress Lucy Wyma, who moonlights (or daylights) as an actress and drama school student, likes it too. We pulled her aside from delivering chicken waffles to answer a few questions. Read her answers here. Photograph by Josh Griggs.

Inspired by Stella McCartney and designed in collaboration with five superstars of fashion, sport and music (Dua Lipa, Karlie Kloss, Hannah Bronfman, Garbine Murguruza and Shay Mitchell) the new Adidas Performance Statement Collection is a sportswear line made for the most modern women. Available in-store now.

Get a head start on your New Year’s resolutions by signing up to Les Mills, and you’ll get every day before 1 January 2019 for free. Start getting into the swing of cardio, weights, group classes and high-intensity workouts now, and it’ll be so much easier to stick to good exercise habits and reach your fitness goals in the new year.

Fonteyn Moses-Te Kani believes diversity is a way for all New Zealand businesses to build a better future together. Her approach isn’t a box-ticking exercise focused on getting different faces into organisations, but a broader challenge to businesses to stay relevant and connected to the communities they belong to. Fonteyn grew up in rural Tairāwhiti and is now head of Māori, Inclusion and Diversity at Westpac, where she’s part of a team working to support economic, environmental and social change through sustainability – where inclusion and diversity just happen to be a vital part of the mix. To hear her talk with Britomart’s Jeremy Hansen, book a seat at Britomart’s The Good Citizen conversation at Generator Excelsior & Stanbeth on Tuesday 13 November, and enjoy a drink with us while you’re there.

If you’re heading to one of the Sam Smith concerts at Spark Arena this Friday or Saturday, why not take the train into Britomart for a cocktail before the show starts – perhaps at Seven, Xuxu Dumpling Bar or in the Racket laneway? After it’s all over, Better Burger is the place to head for a cheap and cheerful burger meal in no time flat – right into the wee small hours.

Have you tried Miann‘s own dark chocolate bar? We suggest you do. Made using cacao beans sourced from boutique growers, the small-batch bars have delicious notes of stone fruit and caramel. We’d suggest you pick one up for your office desk drawer, but with a range of lovely wrappers by artist Stacy Hammond, you might want to keep yours in full view.

Want a social and business networking club membership that gives you access to a private member’s bar, client hosting facilities and special events? Generator has just launched its Generator Club, allowing you to invite up to two guests to join you at the 10th-floor waterfront Assembly Bar for cocktails, long lunches and rooftop Sunday sessions with a revolving line-up of guest DJs like Jaimie Webster-Haines and her husband Nathan. Normally you need to be nominated by an existing Generator member to join, but if you say you saw this story in Nine Blocks on your application, they’ll embrace you into the fold.

The City Hop car-sharing service allows you to book a car by the hour. It’s a lot cheaper than ownership, and the perfect complement to a public-transport based lifestyle when you need to get somewhere a little out of the way. At the Britomart Carpark, we’ve just doubled our City Hop parking, so it’s now easier than ever to find a hireable car close to the city’s biggest public transport hub.

Tomorrow is the annual Dia de Muertos, or Mexican Day of the Dead, when families get together to feast in remembrance of their ancestors. At Mexico Britomart, the feasting part is all ready and waiting for you, with a special one-day-only 3-course menu (including the coriander-topped chicken planche in mole Amarillo, pictured) for $30, and Frida’s Margaritas specials.
