Beauty and wellness expert Rebecca Wadey gives us her picks from the Britomart beauty powerhouses this Christmas.
Rebecca Wadey is one of those people who can turn her hand to just about anything (indeed those are her hands in the picture above). She’s done everything from magazine work in Melbourne to PR for Kate Sylvester to running her own yoga and wellness clinic. She’s previously worked in communications for Estee Lauder, the mother company to M.A.C, Jo Malone and Bobbi Brown, and she’s recently returned to the company as project manager.
You’re back at Estee Lauder! What are you doing and what’s it like to return to the fold? What’s not to love? Working with the most amazing people and the most beautiful products all day long. It hardly feels like work!
The Jo Malone London, M.A.C and Bobbi Brown stores look amazing. Can you run us through the Christmas themes for each this year? These three stores are really the ultimate in gift giving. Each have small yet perfectly formed sets for those on a budget, through to the ultimate in take-your-breath-away luxury gifts. Jo Malone London is called ‘All That Sparkles’ and they describe it as “glitterbugs and jitterbugs”, which sounds (and smells) like the most fun ever. M.A.C is called Shiny Pretty Things and it’s a riot of colour, as you would expect! Bobbi Brown’s Holiday 2018 is also sparkly and golden and reminds me of idyllic, bronzed holiday good times.
And what’s your pick of the Christmas gift offering from each store? Jo Malone London have the most incredible Christmas scent; White Moss and Snowdrops. It smells like a winter wonderland that we can enjoy from balmy Auckland. As with all the Jo Malone London Fragrances it’s wonderfully transportative. I’m dreaming about the deluxe candle ($345) paired with a floral wreath from Ketsal flowers.
From M.A.C I am really into the Shiny Pretty Things goodie lip bag – a lip pencil, lipstick and lip gloss in the cutest bag for $98.
I’m completely obsessed with Bobbi Brown skincare so the Power Trio Skincare set of the cult-like Soothing Cleansing Oil, Hydrating Face Tonic and Hydrating Face Cream ($185) is a must-have. Plus I love the glittery case for the Highlight & Glow Highlighting Powder Duo ($180) so much I would get one even if it wasn’t the most incredible face highlighter. (Which it is, so win win)
We loved the harpist and string quartet you had playing outside the stores for your special event. Who were they, and how did you find them? I’m so glad you loved them as much as I did! It was really important for us to add the emotional connection of Christmas in a fresh and modern way and I think they did this beautifully. The Black Quartet were recommended to me by a friend, Hugh Sundae, as was our wonderful harpist.
The harpist, Weiting Shyu, was actually a contestant on Heartbreak Island – if that doesn’t sum up the juxtaposition of traditional and modern I don’t know what does! The spot she was sitting in outside our Bobbi Brown store is one of the most picturesque in the inner city. The whole scene was (literally) pitch perfect.
How will you be spending Christmas this year? I’m a Coromandel girl through and through, so I’ll be taking my White Moss and Snowdrops to join the pohutakawas!
What are you hoping Santa will bring you? Santa is most definitely coming early with all the above must-haves (and then some!). I have my eye on the shoes currently in Kate Sylvester, the perfect blend of form AND function, and the new Karen Walker Keep Cups are also pretty epic.
