Sate your taste for celebration at Mexico on the Cinco de Mayo.

This Saturday is the Cinco de Mayo, when Mexico celebrates a 156-year-old unexpected military victory with a day of feasting, dancing and drinking. And at your favourite Mexican food joint, they’re celebrating, but your wallet gets the unexpected victory, with a spicy three-course set menu for just $35.

The menu kicks off with vegetarian-friendly spiced calabaza tacitos drizzled with a blackened leek, lime and ricotta crema. Next, it’s braised pork belly and pineapple tacos, served on a carrot mojo and topped with an ensalada of citrus-cured red onion, apple chutney, candied sesame seeds and cucumber yoghurt. Cool your tastebuds down afterwards with a tres leches pastel dessert that includes mint and strawberry sorbet and a vanilla crema.

We’d say it’s best paired with a Jose Cuervo Frida’s Margarita, but Mexico has a full range of cervezas (beer), sangria, tequila and soda to suit your tastes.
