Like You Wish Mama Used to Make

Juicy pork belly; chicken stuffed with bacon; and slow-roasted beef – Ostro’s Sunday roasts probably aren’t like the ones from your childhood.

…and that’s a good thing. Because if the roasts coming out of your family kitchen on a Sunday were anything like these, chances are you’d have never left.

A delicious opportunity to slow things down and catch up with friends and family for a relaxed meal, there are three dishes on the Sunday menu: chicken with bacon and sage stuffing; whole slow-roasted Wakanui scotch; and free-range pork belly with grain mustard sauce. Ordering is a  tantalisingly tough decision, made only slightly easier by the fact that they all come with the same sides: roasted veggies, seasonal greens, Yorkshire puddings and all the appropriate sauces.

In addition to these three dishes, parties of four or more can pre-order (with 48 hours’ notice) something a little more indulgent – a whole 28-day-aged Canterbury beef fillet with truffled mushroom duxelles, foie gras butter and Madeira sauce (Minimum 4 people @ $48 per person). Not exactly the sausage-stuffed chook that used to feature at our parents’ Sunday dinners, Ostro’s roasts are nothing short of exquisite.

Available from midday-5pm Sundays, slow things down and finish the week off well with a roast dinner and all the trimmings at Ostro. Bookings are essential, please call +64 9 302 9888 or email
