Little Bird’s Holiday “Detox” Cocktail

As we approach the silly season, the concept of balance seems to go out the window, and we find ourselves indulging a little more than usual. Here’s the answer.

When we’re faced with an endless parade of delicious festive treats and drinks, and everyone’s feeling a little ‘silly’, it’s difficult not to get a bit carried away. However, it’s possible to indulge a little more than usual, but still avoid the post indulgence slump… by supplementing your diet with a few additional hangover-cure and immune-boosting superfoods such as turmeric, ginger, grapefruit and lemon. And what better way to incorporate a few of these into the festive month than with a delicious cocktail?

Serves 2

Ingredients

60ml vodka or sake

Half a cup strawberries, stems removed

One third of a cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

1 tsp ginger juice (optional)

1 tsp xylitol (optional)

1 cup sparkling water

Ice

Extra strawberries, sliced

Method

1. Place strawberries, grapefruit juice, ginger and xylitol in a high-speed blender, and blend until smooth.

2. Strain through a sieve, and add vodka.

3. Place ice in the bottom of two glasses, and fill halfway with grapefruit strawberry mixture.

4. Top up with sparkling water and garnish with a few slices of strawberry.
