FACE FACTS M.A.C makeup artist Liz Hyun knows your best lip colour
Liz Hyun is a makeup artist at the Britomart M.A.C Pro store. She’s had a busy month, leading the makeup on several NZ Fashion Week shows, including Britomart locals Trelise Cooper and Kathryn Wilson. We chatted to Liz while she was taking us through a M.A.C in-store makeup mini-tutorial, where you can learn tips and tricks for two areas of the face.
How did you get into makeup artistry? I was an art and design student, studying spatial design, but I missed being more hands-on in my work. I had a lightbulb moment and changed to do a diploma in makeup artistry at Samala Robinson Academy.
And how long have you been with M.A.C? I’ve been with M.A.C for five years now, and I’m the assistant manager of this store. I’ve been doing Fashion Week for the last three or four years.
What do you like about working at Britomart? All the shops and the food places!
How do you get to work? I drive in and park in the Britomart Carpark. Ever since the Waterview Tunnel went in, it’s so fast to get to work.
What do people ask about most when they come into the shop? Skin and lips. A lot of people want to achieve no-makeup makeup, and when you’re ordering online it can be hard to find the perfect nude. We have more than 200 lipsticks in-store.

THE FALCON HAS LANDED Kylie Jenner and an adidas icon celebrate turning 21 together
The further we get from the 1990s, the fonder we feel about them, and the new-old adidas Originals Falcon runner’s big, bold shape and pastel-mix palette reminds us of the fun of those over-the-top days. Kylie Jenner was chosen as ambassador for the new generation of Falcon runners ($170) – given her love of sportswear, hip-hop and exaggerated silhouettes, we think they made the perfect choice.
UNDER COVER Bobbi Brown’s new camo-inspired eyeshadow is made to show off
Available from Monday at Bobbi Brown in Britomart, the Camo Luxe collection turns the traditional earthy shades of army camouflage into a multi-dimensional palette ($70) with a twist. It’s kind of self-defeating, because the pretty colour mix is likely to draw attention rather than deflect it, but when your eyes look so good, who cares?
BAGS IT Adventure in style with this Raf Simons X Eastpak Functional rucksack
Who says high fashion and hard-wearing outdoors kit are mutually exclusive? Admittedly, this multi-compartment backpack with solid metal hardware and rope-cord closures might not see you through a mountaineering expedition, but it’ll help you survive a cattle-class work trip to Sydney. $400 at Zambesi Britomart now.
HELLO SAILOR The nautical stripes of this new tee make us want to rock the boat
This sudden burst of spring-like weather has us turning our eyes towards the harbour, and dreaming of getting out in the wind again. And while it’s probably still a little early to set sail, you can get in the mood with the new Bowery Stripe collection of tees for men and women ($26-$36) from AS Colour‘s Britomart store.
