Long Bloody Mary lunches, Full Moon parties and quiz nights. Who says winter isn’t fun?
If this week’s Arctic blast has alerted you to an inadequate coat situation in your wardrobe, layer up at a discount at Trelise Cooper’s Pre-Fall and Winter Sale, on now.
While you’re there, you could pick up a party dress for Saturday night’s Full Moon Party at Talulah (above), which kicks off at 8pm. They’ll be turning the heat up until the place is like a sunset beach in Thailand. Sweet dance tunes by DJs Kahu Muru and Nigel Love, crazy cocktails, $5 Chang beers and $15 whiskey buckets, a rooftop bar and a full moon… we know where we’ll be.
Come the next day, Ostro is the place to go for a long Bloody Sunday lunch, with their Bloody Mary Trolley serving up that special fix. Stay long enough, and you can transition straight to a champagne high tea from 3pm.
On Monday, you can start the week right by helping L’Occitane en Provence fight avoidable blindness. All profits from the sale of their 50g Shea Butter Soft Soap ($8) go to Unicef to support eye health initiatives. It’s a cause that’s been close to L’Occitane’s heart since their founder Olivier Baussan first decided to put Braille on their labels in 1997.
By Tuesday you’ll be feeling so good about yourself that you should get your mates into a team for The Chamberlain’s weekly quiz night, starting at 7pm. Dazzle the other teams with your knowledge of obscure sporting and pop culture trivia as you vie for great prizes.
Wednesday is the Fourth of July, so Orleans is hosting a Southern feast. At lunch, grab half-priced Fried Chicken and Waffles from 12-3pm. But if you don’t have dinner plans, we strongly recommend their awesome 4th July BBQ set menu. Made to share between two, it starts with warm cob loaves filled with prawn dip, cheese and scallions. Next, a meat-lover’s BBQ platter – braised pork ribs, crispy fried chicken wings, chipotle flank steak and buttered grilled corn to share, with bourbon lime slaw and portobello & onion-stuffed potato on the side. Banana cream pie with chantilly cream and caramel sauce finishes it off. Just $45 per person. Book online here or ring Orleans or email Auckland@orleans.co.nz
If you’re not completely stuffed after that, on Thursday, you could test-drive Super’s new Happy Hour lunch, now on every weekday from 12-1pm. This week the special is Caesar Salad and a glass of wine for just $15, or a Pink Skirt Steak and a beer for the same price.
