Rose Kwon is a social media manager who loves her city – and Britomart's shopping and eating options in particular. Here, she takes us through some of her highlights.
You've just done a Britomart staycation from a room in The Hotel Britomart. How was it?
ROSE The Hotel Britomart is definitely one of my favourite places to stay. It has a very calming and minimalistic design that makes it seem like you're out of town. What I liked about being at The Hotel Britomart was how close everything was: being in the middle of Britomart, some of Auckland's best eating and drinking is right on the doorstep. To start with, there's kingi, the restaurant on bar on the hotel's ground floor. The nduja hollandaise with poached eggs is delicious and definitely worth a try!
As the style queen you are, what are your recommendations for places to shop?
ROSE Fabric is one of my favourite stores for their timeless pieces – perfect for me in my goal of building the perfect capsule wardrobe. Wonder Journal is also another one of my favourite stores which features exquisite Japanese items, including a variety of teas. They occasionally host events like kintsugi workshops, where you can learn the art of repairing ceramics—a truly unique experience.
How was it exploring Britomart and what did you get up to?
ROSE It was so much fun! There's a variety of things to do in Britomart which is rare to find in one space. My partner and I grabbed some sandwiches and pastries from Daily Bread and enjoyed them down in Takutai Square while it was sunny. After relaxing in the sun, we got ready for dinner at MoVida. It was my first time discovering MoVida and I'm so glad I found it. Choosing a favourite dish would be difficult but the mussels were out the gate. This hidden gem offers a stunning view of the harbour, making it an ideal spot for a sunset meal.
After dinner, we loved walking around Britomart at night, especially along Te Ara Tahuhu. The beautifully plant-lined streets with fairy lights create a magical atmosphere that's perfect for a leisurely stroll. You can't beat it down here, Britomart is really a place you need to visit and experience.
