Leading Kiwi designer Vicki Taylor’s unique brand of timeless, wearable fashion has found a home in The Pavilions at Britomart.
It’s little wonder Vicki Taylor inspires such intense loyalty amongst her customers: her designs strike just the right balance between long-lasting, classic design and the sort of subtle, intricate detailing that make owning – and wearing – them something special.
Characterised by an understated, edgy aesthetic, taylor garments offer ingenious twists on simple, architectural lines. Designs are deliberately versatile to allow the wearer creative scope and experimentation.
Pieces are created around beautiful fabrics, lovingly sourced from the world’s best mills, and materials such as New Zealand merino feature strongly in the collections. All garments are proudly designed and manufactured in New Zealand to deliver small production runs and the level of quality and bespoke detailing that Vicki insists upon.
Rise of a fashion designer
Born into the fashion industry – with a father, grandfather and great-uncle all in the textile business – Vicki Taylor graduated with a prestigious design degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She went on to be head designer at Gregory, significantly boosting the label’s popularity and success. She launched the taylor label in 1999 with the opening of her first store, taylor Boutique on Jervois Road.
Today Vicki has a dedicated group of followers who return to her designs season after season. Vicki herself is often to be found in store, styling, advising and getting feedback from customers.
As Vicki says, “I’m spoilt by my customers; we’ve established a long history together. Hopefully I can keep them inspired by producing pieces they want and just have to own.”
