Better September kicks off this week, and Britomart is proud to host the phenomenon that is KiwiHarvest, with a special event happening on Tuesday 5 September from 12-2pm.
New Zealand produces enough food to feed 20 million people, yet every day tonnes are thrown out, and most of it is perfectly edible. KiwiHarvest delivers rescued food to social agencies working with people in need – the difference KiwiHarvest makes adds up to some big changes, and impacts environmentally, socially and economically. To date, KiwiHarvest has rescued and delivered over 40,000 kgs of food to over 100 different charities.
On Tuesday, the KiwiHarvest crew and volunteers will be in Takutai Square displaying information, rescued food and opportunities for donations. Trudi the Foodie from KiwiHarvest will speak about the charity and about using leftovers, food scraps and imperfect fruit and vegetables in cooking. Guest speaker Megan May, raw food queen and founder of Little Bird Organics, will then do a smoothie demo using surplus, rescued ingredients.
This is such an important movement and offers something everybody can learn from: please come and show your support!
