Our annual giveaway of native trees from The Landing from 8 to 10 April gets native plants into gardens all over the city and raises money for the Motutapu Restoration Trust.

Planting trees is one of the many ways we can each take action to mitigate climate change. It’s an easy and incredibly satisfying way to help make a difference.

That's why we’re giving away thousands of native trees in Britomart's Takutai Square from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 April: because it gives you the opportunity and know-how to help tackle climate change by planting your own.

The trees on offer have been raised from seeds in the nursery at The Landing, the 1,000-acre Bay of Islands heritage estate that’s under the stewardship of the the team behind the patient regeneration of Britomart.

Come to Takutai Square on Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 or Thursday 10 April between 11am and 5pm, peruse the different trays of seedlings and saplings, get some advice on what will suit your garden best from nurseryman Caleb Scott from The Landing, and choose one or two to take home.

Hot tip: Experience tells us that the most iconic species like pōhutukawa and mānuka disappear the fastest, so aim for the first day if you want the widest choice of species. The trees available on the first day of our giveaway are our complete supply - please note we don't restock each day, so we apologise if your preferred species has already found new homes.

In exchange for the trees, we're encouraging donations to the Motutapu Restoration Trust to support the incredible work they do in the Hauraki Gulf. Anyone can come and collect one or two trees and make a donation with cash or via the tap-and-go terminals.
