Meet Nicky from Les Mills – she loves to move and groove, as well as brightening peoples days.
What’s your name and what do you do at Les Mills Britomart?
My Name is Nicky Lord and I am the Group Fitness Manager here plus I also teach a few of the classes. Best one is 6pm BODYJAM on Tuesday nights… It’s a must haha!
What’s the best thing about your job?
Best thing about my role is watching my team grow as instructors and accomplish goals. They all work extremely hard and give up an enormous amount of their spare time to do what they do, but they have such an impact on other people lives, and I find this is really inspiring and rewarding.
Within my teaching role, I love to dance, I love to work out and I love music, and I get to share this with people every week. However, the most rewarding thing about teaching is knowing that even though some people have had a rough day or are going through life challenging stuff, they have taken the time to come to your class, and somehow for that hour I have helped to brighten their day, or allowed them to take a break from whatever it is they are going through is what I love the most.
What’s the hardest thing about your job?
Hahaha trying to fit everything into a day. There is always so much happening.
What’s your definition of wellness?
My definition of wellness is being happy in yourself. Living a life of balance, looking after yourself physically and mentally and being able to just enjoy what you do and who you do it with.
Can you share a piece of advice for someone who wants to make positive change to their health/ lifestyle but doesn’t know where to start…what are the first steps?
The hardest thing is to start your journey, but once you have started there is no looking back. You will just feel so much better in yourself and have a lot more energy to enjoy all things in life. Make sure whatever you decide to do/start is something that feels right for you or is something you enjoy doing. This will help ensure you stick to it.
Best workout music/song?
I love RnB and Hip Hop but when it comes to working out or teaching a class I love anything that is Euphoric
Can you share a podcast, app, book etc. that you have found motivating?
Anything to do with Michael Jackson. Just watching him inspires and motivates me. His story “The Jacksons: An American Dream” is awesome as is “Man in the Mirror”. He was truly incredible at what he did.
If you weren’t in this job, what else might you be doing?
Hmmmm good question. Maybe travelling the world, Marching haha
What are your summer plans?
Spending time with my beautiful family back home. I love my family time 😊
