It’s fair to say the guys at Espresso Workshop are fanatical about coffee, and what they don’t know about sourcing, roasting and serving fine coffee probably isn’t worth knowing.

They’re passionate about quality single-origin coffee, offering regularly changing specialty coffees whose provenance they’re only too happy to reveal. Ever willing to share the secrets of their latest feature coffee, they’ll prepare it for you as espresso or by pour-over filter – a fantastic, smooth way to experience the subtleties of specialty coffee.

The Espresso Workshop team know, however, that excellent coffee alone isn’t enough to ensure an outstanding cafe experience. That’s delivered through the total Workshop package of seamless, efficient service from highly trained baristas and the superb sweet and savoury cabinet food.

Champions of coffee

The stylish surroundings are all part of the Espresso Workshop experience, with a slick wood-and-steel ‘workshop’ design fully in keeping with the character of the brand. Everything about the place celebrates the art of good coffee, from the meticulously-designed bar, optimised for barista flow and efficiency, to the roasted coffee chaff incorporated into the lampshades and floors.

Espresso Workshop Britomart is owned by Andrew and Erica Smart, both based at the Parnell Roastery. The espresso bar is managed by Tom Austin, who is well educated in coffee having recently returned from overseas where he worked at specialty coffee companies including St Ali and Sensory Lab.

Andrew founded Espresso Workshop in 2007, and delivers fresh roasts daily to the Britomart espresso bar. Espresso Workshop has boasted Auckland’s number one ranked Barista every year since 2009, and was recognised by Metro Magazine as one of the ‘5 Best for Coffee’ in December 2012.
