Here's a rundown on the talent that's coming to Takutai Square.
MAYJUN The Pasifika pop-punk trio Hales, Elijah McPherson and Tivoli Levi are known for challenging musical sterotypes as Pacific artists. "The idea behind MAYJUN was to push music that people that look like us don't really create."
SAM V The award-winning RnB singer Sam V is known for his captivating vocal execution and musicality. Sam V has become a staple of the current generation of Aotearoa music with songs such as Come Through, Love Again, and Jukebox with STNDRD. Renowned for crafty, poetic songwriting and soulful vocals, Sam V continues to distinguish himself as a trailblazer of RnB in Aotearoa.
GREATSOUTH South Auckland musician Greatsouth is a Māori alt-rock artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. The artist often sings about what it's like to be young and Māori with songs such as Please!, Nada In My Wallet, and Popstar in Manix paying homage to South Auckland and his suburb Papakura. Greatsouth is known for pushing boundaries and highlighting topics such as the struggles of a broke creative in the midst of Aotearoa's cost of living crisis.
CHURCH & AP One of the most exciting hip-hop duos to emerge from the Aotearoa music scene, Church & AP have taken the industry by storm. With tracks such as 'Ready or Not', 'Church On A Sunday' and their latest single 'AKLgirls', Church & AP continue to breakthrough with their engaging and underground sound.
SPDRTWNBBY Rising star Spdrtwnbby from Avondale is known for her neo-soul music bringing a cosmic blend of sound and style. The breakout Samoan artist sings about love, self-doubt and vulnerability through songs such as PIXEL PIXIE and Fruits in the Diaspora.
THEWESTERNGUIDE The country singer who is proud to be from West Auckland is excited to perform original tracks such as Drive Me Crazy, Bottom of the Bed and Ready or Not.
HALES The young musical sensation is making waves with his soulful Alternative Pop and R&B sound. The South Auckland singer who is also the lead singer for pop-punk trio MAYJUN is known for blending elements of soul, R&B, and contemporary pop. You can find some of his tracks such as Look Up, Just My Type and Overthinking.
JARNA East Auckland singer Jarna is known for her soulful music. Her mellow songs such as Chill, Crush and Loyalty take inspiration from Pop and R&B roots. 2022 was a breakout year for JARNA, being named Pacific Music’s 2022 Philip Fuemana Most Promising artist. JARNA is poised to take the New Zealand music scene by storm.
LEAO The band is a budding creative entity of David Feauai-Afaese, a Samoan indie-rock musician who is the living and breathing embodiment of Pacific music throughout the millennia. With fierece roots linking back to a whole genealogy of Pasifika musicians who have shaped LEAO's sound, they take inspiration from DIY artists and Samoan pop bands like Pacific Soul in the 90s to Hawaiian, Samoan and Tongan string bands dating back to the first half of the 20th century.
