Sort a restaurant table at Britomart and parking close to Spark Arena before you leave the house, and your family outing will be stress-free.
The Lion King is a true musical theatre phenomenon, performing around the globe for almost 25 years, winning six Tony awards (including the first Best Director award for a woman, Julie Traynor), grossing over $1 billion and kickstarting Broadway’s new era as a family-friendly destination.
Next month, the Auckland season opens at Spark Arena on Thursday 24 June, running until Sunday 18 July, with a diverse international and local cast performing a spectacularly staged production of the story and Elton John and Tim Rice’s music.
If your family is planning to go, booking lunch or dinner at one of Britomart’s family-friendly restaurants for before or after your performance and securing a carpark at Britomart Carpark (only a couple of minutes walk from Spark Arena) in advance will make the whole experience run as smoothly as the show itself.
The Brit, The Chamberlain (open Tues - Sat), Mexico and Better Burger all have super kid-friendly menus, and Better Burger is offering a free fries when you show your ticket for a Lion King performance on the same day. If you’re attending a Sunday showing, you could also take advantage of the kids-eat-free-with-paying-adults offer at Mexico.
For those who have kids, or are with a group, with more adventurous palates, Amano, Cafe Hanoi, Ostro (open Wed - Sun) and Ebisu (open Tues - Sun) offer wide-ranging menus with something to please everyone, and plenty of space for larger groups.
If you’re attending a matinee performance, The Store and La Petite Fourchette make great lunchtime options, or if you’re short on time, a quick stop for a hot chocolate or gateaux at Miann is always a hit.
Britomart Carpark offers an event rate of $20 for 10 hours (entry after 3.30pm) – click here to pre-book a space and just press the event button on the pay machine when you return to your car. If you’re attending a matinee and eating at Britomart, save your receipt (for $50+) from the meal, and the first two hours of your parking at Britomart Carpark will be free.
