The great news is that Galway Street is being revamped to become a pedestrian-friendly shared space. The even better news is that while this happens, your favourite restaurants and bars are still open.

From now until mid-next year, the central section of Galway St (between Gore and Commerce Sts)  in Britomart is being transformed into a pedestrian-friendly shared space.

Alongside Auckland Council and Auckland Transport, we’re working to create an upgraded, repaved shared space filled with public seating and lush plantings that will be safer and more pleasant for pedestrians, the disabled and vehicles.

If you’re a dedicated fan of Cafe Hanoi and The Store, don’t worry – your favourite modern Vietnamese restaurant and lunchtime courtyard dining space are still open for business, accessible through Commerce St (Cafe Hanoi) and the main walkway through The Pavilions (The Store).

Better Burger is also still open – it’s just moved a little further down Galway St, and is now located on the southern side of the Britomart Train Station, opposite the back entrance to Huffer.

Night-time hotspot 1885 is still going strong (in the evenings, access is via The Pavilions – just head in past Allbirds and Sass & Bide) until the end of the year. They’ll wrap up 2019 with a giant New Year’s bash, and then close for a transformation into an exciting new hospitality venue. Stay tuned for more details on this in the next few weeks.
