Rachel’s aspirational eyebrows are a clue to her role as manager of the Off & On brow and wax bar at Britomart.

Are you from Auckland?

I’m from Cork, in Ireland. I moved here with my husband who is from South Africa, so we thought… “New Zealand? Why not?!”

How do you get to Britomart?

I get the Northern Express bus, which is super quick and comes every few minutes.

What do you do here?

I am the manager of Off & On Britomart, where we tackle everyone’s hairy needs!

How did you get into it?

I studied beauty therapy for two years back in Ireland. I then came across Off & On when I moved here, and the rest is history. I wouldn’t work anywhere else.

What was your first job?

My first job was in a fancy guesthouse in Kinsale, Ireland. I served breakfast and made beds.

What’s your idea of fun?

Exploring somewhere I’ve never been before.

If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?

Probably the one I’m doing right now if I’m honest – not to sound too clichéd, but I work with some truly amazing people and I simply like what I do… it’s fun!

Where’s your favourite place to eat around here?

I don’t have dinner here much, but I’m rather fond of something sweet from either Amano or Miann.

Where’s the best place for a beverage?

My team and I often go for a few sneaky drinks after work on a Friday in Talulah’s. They have a really cool Tiki Bar upstairs!

What’s something not many people know about you?

I met my hubby while we were both working on the Cunard Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, which took us all around the world – including here in Auckland! I remember going for a drink in Father Ted’s Bar on Wellesley Street.

What’s the best thing about working around here?

You’re so close to everything here in Britomart, and in summer there’s always a good vibe around the square for FoodTruck Fridays.

How do you spend your days off?

I love quiet time at home at the weekends, to be honest. I love going for breakfast or doing some cheeky shopping. There will be a good gym sesh in there somewhere too.

Have you read, watched or listened to anything great lately?

Nothing lately but my favourite movie is ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

What’s your favourite season?

Summer is the obvious choice here, but I’m not opposed to those cosy winter nights cuddling at home either. Winter can be nice.
